What are Anti-Freeze and Coolant?

The best part about anti-freeze is the name spells out what it's made to do; it lowers the freezing point of the water in your engine from becoming frozen so that it won't wreak havoc on your motor or the parts inside. This fluid keeps your car running during winter months or if you frequent cold destinations.

Your coolant does almost the same thing, but it regulates the engine's temperature to prevent overheating by absorbing the motor's heat and working with the radiator to keep everything under the hood cold. While coolant plays a significant role in every season, you'll hear it in the summer, as hot sunny days can damage your car, and your coolant stops it from breaking down.

How Often Should You Service Your Anti-Freeze and Coolant?

Depending on your driving habits, your antifreeze and coolant will degrade and lose their effectiveness over time. This can lead to water freezing in your engine, parts breaking, and overheating, resulting in a complete replacement bill.

We recommend changing your antifreeze every two or three years or 60,000 miles. You should also flush your radiator for coolant every two years or 30,000 miles. Again, it depends on how frequently you drive. If you take the highway to work, you may need to change it more often than a driver who hits the road occasionally.
