Speck Buick GMC of Tri-Cities Dealership History
Speck Buick GMC of Tri-Cities Is Your West Pasco Speck Dealership
In January of 2019 Speck Family Dealerships purchased Desert Buick GMC in Pasco, WA. Now known as Speck Buick GMC of Tri-Cities, Speck Family Dealerships now has 9 franchises to choose from; Buick, GMC, Chevrolet, Nissan, Hyundai, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, and Ram. It all started in 1912 when C. Speck Motors, Inc. was founded by Clayton Speck and his brother-in-law in Sunnyside, Washington. The Speck-Rowland Garage began with Buick as the new car franchise and added the Chevrolet division in 1917. In 1920 Clayton bought out his brother-in-law.
In the early years customers would often trade in unique items like guns for down payments on a car. During the height of the Great Depression, a new dealership facility was built on the corner of Sixth and Franklin in Sunnyside. Many skeptics thought Clayton was making a huge mistake given the state of the economy. During World War II, the service facility was converted to a machine shop for manufacturing parts for the U.S. Military. The dealership didn't get new cars again until 1945 and were sold on a lottery basis due to inventory shortage.
Clayton passed away in 1953 but will be forever remembered for his generosity to employees, customers and strangers. In 1950, James R. Speck became the Dealer Principal of C. Speck Motors, Inc. In 1975, James C. Speck became the third generation to own C. Speck Motors, Inc. Two years later, his father, James R., passed away. The Nissan franchise was added in 1985 and a separate showroom was built at the south end of the Sixth and Franklin location. James C. Speck was selected to serve on General Motors "Dealer Advisory Board" in 1985. During the late 70's and 80's business flourished and plans were made for a larger facility.
The daughter of James C. Speck, Kathryn "Katy" Speck joined her father in the auto business in 1994. In 1996 she married John Paul "JP" Moore. Katy Moore became Dealer Principal of C. Speck Motors, Inc. in 1998, making her the fourth generation of Speck in the auto business! Under Katy's leadership, C. Speck Motors was moved from it's downtown location to a 60,000 square foot facility on 18 acres of land off highway I-82.
By 2002 Katy and JP Moore added an additional location in Pasco, Washington. It began as a used car operation but they added the Hyundai franchise in 2003 and renamed the dealership Speck Hyundai of Tri-Cities.
In June of 2008 Jeff Hall chose to continue the tradition of his family owned business by selling his Chevrolet-Buick dealership in Prosser, Washington to Katy and JP Moore. The history of the Hall family is similar to the Speck Family. In 1961, Wally and Wilfred Hall formed Hall Chevrolet-Buick in Prosser. In the early 1980's Jeff and Joe Hall, sons of Wally Hall, were introduced into the family business. When Wally Hall retired in 1997, Jeff Hall purchased the dealership. During Jeff's leadership of the family business, Hall Chevrolet-Buick won many achievements and awards including 1983 Washington State Dealer of the Year and the 1998 and 1999 Chevrolet Genuine Leader Award.
In the fall of 2018, Speck Family Dealerships added a new dealership to the family along with four new franchises! Mid-Valley Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram in Grandview became Speck Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. The dealership was moved to a new facility in November of 2019. The brand new state-of-the-art facility is located next to C. Speck Motors off exit 69 in Sunnyside. Washington.
In late 2020, Speck Buick GMC of Tri-Cities moved from its Kennewick location to a brand new state-of-the-art facility at 9610 Sandifur Pkwy in Pasco, WA. Now with 18 service bays and a 35,000 square foot facility on 7 acres. Come to Speck Buick GMC of Tri-Cities for a premium sales and service experience!
